Steps to Update Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) to Android 4.4.2 XXUGNH2 Firmware

Samsung, the giant mobile manufacturer lately launched a new Android KitKat firmware with the build name XXUGNH2 for the Samsung Galxy S4 (GT-I9500) users. The firmware has gone on live in selected countries namely Libya, United Arab Emirates, Egypt & Tunisia. Also the firmware has been made live in Morocco for both common Galaxy S4 users and the MED, MAT & MWD Galaxy S4 users. Since this firmware an OTA update, so it’s being pushed in installments for the users. So at anytime you might get this update in your Smartphone notification panel. But if you want to flash the new firmware even before it reaches your device via OTA or Kies, then better you can follow the below given manual update method. Of course, this method is not recommended since OTA facility is already there. But if you are desperate, you can follow it. But remember, we at TechGipsy will not take any responsibility for any sort of bugs or brick of your device. All you do is your sole responsibility.

Before starting the manual update process, all users are recommended to read and understand the steps properly and double check the name and model number of their Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) device since it’s an exclusive firmware for the said device and better you must not use it for other devices. Also users residing in the said countries should update the firmware in their Galaxy S4 Smartphones.

Pr-requisites
All important data and files of your Galaxy S4 should be provided with a good back-up before this update since the update will erase all your important data.
A computer and original USB cable should be kept ready for use.
Your PC must be pre-loaded with the Galaxy S4 drivers since the drivers will help you connect your Smartphone to your PC. If not installed, then at first download the drivers from the official site of Samsung and install those to your PC.
The USB debugging option should be enabled by following the steps Menu > Settings > Applications.
To ensure if your USB debugging is enabled, navigate and tap on Developer Options. Don’t forget to disable the USB Debugging option post update.
Most importantly keep your phone battery fully charged. If it is not fully charged, at least maintain a minimum of 85% power back up before starting the update.
Steps to Update
First of all download your required Android 4.4.2 XXUGNH2.zip file for your Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) Smartphone and extract it on the desktop of your Computer.

Now download Odin v3.09.zip.
Then Put your Samsung Galaxy S4 into download mode by first turning off the phone and then pressing its Volume Down button, Power Button and Home Button simultaneously. Thereafter press the Power Button again after a warning message appear on your screen, to put your Samsung Galaxy S4 device into download mode.
Then connect the Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphone to the PC via USB cable.
The button-left corner of Odin will display a message after the connection of the Galaxy device with your PC is successful.
Now launch Odin on your PC, click on “AP/ADB” in Odin and choose the “.tar.md5″ file from the extracted 4.4.2 XXUGNH2 folder. Make sure that re-partition option is unchecked.
Next select the “Auto-reboot” option in Odin and press the “Start” button. The update process will take around 4-5 minutes. Wait still your Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) gets rebooted.
